Chela is one of one.

She left school in the fourth grade, taught herself to sew, and from that one skill, she has clothed a community: quinceañera dresses, prom dresses, wedding dresses, Halloween costumes. We grew up watching it: the steady stream of extended family coming through her front door to be fitted, the trips on the metro with her to downtown LA to find the best fabrics at the best prices.

Chela's house is the house. No one leaves without eating. When her daughters' friends got kicked out of their homes, she took them in. When we started elementary school in Lennox, and the transition felt impossible, she volunteered as a teacher's aide, sitting in our classrooms every day until we felt confident enough to go on our own. She walked us to and from school through the end of elementary, without a car or a driver's license, because her daughters were working hard to provide for their children and she wanted to make their lives easier.

When her great-grandchildren were born, she was there as soon as she could be. We always have a place to sleep at her house and something to eat in her kitchen. And not just us, but anyone who comes by. She loves them as her own. That love continues into each generation, and we built this brand to honor women like her.
